Warrior's Edge

“It is imperative to prepare our military with the mindset skills to not only fundamentally transform their individual lives post-duty, but to function as mental pre-hab in preparation for the necessary physical and mental stressors of military service.” — Dr. Jannell MacAulay

It is time to transform one of the most critical organizations in our country from the inside out. Finding Mastery—a high performance leadership consultancy working with the world’s best—has partnered with Dr. Jannell MacAulay, Lt Col USAF retired (combat pilot, military operational commander, and performance specialist) to bring their Finding Your Best training to the various military, government, and first responder branches.

Calling back to the traditions of the ancient warrior, where a disciplined mind enabled smart and contemplative split-second decisions, scientifically researched and evidence-based mindset skills can fill a vital training gap and ensure each individual human weapon has the psychological flexibility to excel both personally and professionally to reach their full potential.

Warrior's Edge provides the essential psychological tools to train one’s mind and command your thoughts under stress—no matter which arena you are in.

The Epidemic

Long-term exposure to high-stress environments, where psychological and emotional trauma are near-certain experiences, leaves many military and first responders at risk for sub-optimal performance, as they are conditioned to constantly activate their sympathetic nervous system. This creates an environment for maladaptive coping mechanisms, compromised performance abilities, as well as potential increases in anxiety, depression, suicide, domestic violence, and substance abuse.

Most high-stress cultures including active duty military and first responders focus a significant amount of time on their body and craft, often neglecting the benefits of a mental skills training program. Many programs that are currently in place are reactive, treating people after they have already experienced trauma rather than utilizing strategies that help to improve both performance on the job and to mitigate the consequences of maladaptive coping responses.

It's Time For A Change

Proactive mental health strategies help to address and alleviate the TOP FOUR issues leaders struggle with:

Violence & Harassment

Burnout/Exhaustion

Substance abuse

Suicide

  • The 2014 Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Psychiatry study found the rate of PTSD in military veterans to be 15 TIMES HIGHER than civilians.
  • The Veterans Administration reports that approximately 20 VETERANS DIE BY SUICIDE every day.
  • FEWER THAN 50% of returning veterans in need receive any mental health treatment.
  • 25% OF RETURNING IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN VETERANS show signs of substance abuse disorder.
  • 30% of active duty and reserve military personnel deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan have a mental health condition requiring treatment.

Be part of the solution.
Evolve your organization to the next level.

Self Discovery

Self discovery is about developing awareness of thought patterns in order to pursue one’s best. Determining a definition of high performance, crafting a personal philosophy, understanding how to set a vision, and learning your character strengths are central for enhancing awareness.

Module 1

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a particular way of focusing on the present moment without judgment. There are two pillars of mindfulness: awareness and insight. Training mindfulness builds awareness of one’s thoughts, emotions, physiology and environment. Deeper awareness of one’s experience in the present moment can lead to insight and wisdom.

Module 2

Mindset Skills

There are four basic mindset skills — calm, confidence, focus and trust. These skills are what help one show up and adjust in any environment. Breathing, self-talk, the ability to refocus and our behavior over time are the major components of training mindset skills.

Module 3

Psychological Framework

Psychological framework is the way one makes sense of the world. Optimism, control and grit make up one’s psychological framework. Optimism is the way one sees the world, grit is the passion and perseverance one has toward a goal and the understanding of what’s in one’s control is essential to high performance.

Module 4

Recovery

There are four pillars of recovery: Sleep Well, Eat/Hydrate Well, Move Well, and Think Well. Everyone needs to form habits around recovery in order to perform at an optimal level.

Testimonials

- Timothy "Chachi" Pachasa, 24 Year Air Force Veteran

“Warrior’s Edge training is the best resiliency investment the 93 AGOW has made. The instructors understand the high-stress environment in which our Airmen operate and are able to immediately and credibly connect with and relate to them during seminars. Because the nature of the training is such that it’s designed to be passed on, the benefits accrue throughout the organization even after the primary audience has been exposed. We plan on engaging with this team on a routine basis—this is the most effective means we’ve found for helping Airmen translate the stresses of military service—specifically those associated with ground combat—into exhilaration and high performance.”

- Air Force Wing Commander, Commander 93 Air Ground Operations Wing, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia

“Like the whole of military (and society in general), our base has struggled with cases of suicide and depression, and we have been looking for any way we can to attack the problem. A close friend suggested the Warrior’s Edge program after having success with his wing- describing it as a new way to improve focus and model effective behaviors top down for dealing with stress and improving performance.

140 members strong, our leadership team took his advice, taking the 8-hour live course, and were shocked to find how much we could all improve in our own lives to increase mindfulness and mental resilience. Our team is ecstatic to continue learning with 8 weeks of online content, looking hopefully to the future where we try to master these new skills – and in the process – improve our focus, our performance, our personal lives, and ultimately foster those behaviors to improve the lives of our airmen.”

- Air Force Vice Wing Commander, Former Astronaut and Vice Commander 50th Space Wing

Whether you want to lead better, enhance the performance of doing hard things in environments of consequence, or cultivate mental skills so you can face setbacks in everyday life and move forward through them — the warrior’s edge skill set will work for you.
